We’re pleased to have manufactured and installed fabric-wrapped acoustic panels for this local Somerset pub. While small in scale, this important project highlights the vital role acoustics play in hospitality spaces.
Poor sound control is increasingly common in restaurants, pubs, and cafés, often leading to uncomfortable environments where conversation becomes difficult. This discomfort can result in shorter visits, reduced repeat bookings, and a negative impact on both guests’ wellbeing and overall experience.
Hospitality venues are seen as a treat by people across the UK — places to relax, connect, and escape everyday noise. These spaces should therefore feel special, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed. By improving acoustics, venues can create calmer, more enjoyable environments that encourage guests to stay longer, return more often, and truly enjoy the space as it was intended.
Project Overview
The George Inn in Croscombe contacted ISS after experiencing issues with reverberation and uncomfortable echo in one of their high-ceilinged restaurant spaces. Although the area is relatively small, with only a few tables, the combination of a tall, hard ceiling, vintage beams, and predominantly hard surfaces created excessive reverberation when the restaurant was busy.
We proposed the installation of suspended acoustic rafts, incorporating 100 mm acoustic insulation as a starting point to absorb the excessive noise. The design was approved, and the panels were manufactured in our Somerset workshop before being installed over the course of a single morning.
The installation was quick and completed in time for the Christmas period, ensuring guests at The George Inn now benefit from a significantly improved and more comfortable dining experience.
