Auditorio de Tenerife.
Tenerife, Spain
The ISS team was proud to contribute to the acoustic installation works for the prestigious Tenerife Auditorium upgrade project in colloboration with Acoustic GRG. This multi-phase initiative aimed to transform the Symphony and Chamber Halls into world-class performance spaces by enhancing their acoustic environments without compromising their architectural integrity.
Project Goals
The primary objective of the project was to ensure that sound from the stage reaches the audience with unmatched clarity and precision. A comprehensive study by RG Sanles Acoustics identified key improvements, including the installation of over 3,000 advanced sound-diffusing panels. These panels were meticulously designed to integrate seamlessly with the building's aesthetic while delivering optimal acoustic performance.
Key Features and Upgrades
Symphony Hall Improvements:
Installation of plaster reflectors covered with perforated panels to enhance sound reflection without dampening.
Upgraded orchestra pit with a paneling system that improves both sound quality and visual appeal.
Proscenium and other performance areas fitted with reflective panels for optimal sound diffusion.
Significant enhancement of the hall’s iconic pipe organ sound through tailored acoustic solutions.
Chamber Hall Enhancements:
New white and wood panels on the entrance wall, adding both visual appeal and acoustic functionality.
Diffuser panels installed on lighting trusses to improve sound quality for diverse performances.
Acoustic Shell Innovation:
Replacement of the outdated acoustic shell with a modular design featuring micro-absorption technology. This change provides clearer sound for musicians and an enhanced auditory experience for the audience.
Impact of the Upgrades
The improvements were widely praised by José Carlos Acha, Councillor for Culture of the Cabildo de Tenerife, who commended the project for elevating the Tenerife Auditorium into one of the world’s top cultural venues. Musicians, artists, and audiences alike benefit from the enhanced acoustic environment, which supports all musical styles and formations.
Project Scope
This extensive modernization project involved the use of 1,200 square meters of material and the expertise of several British firms specializing in acoustic solutions. The enhancements ensure a balanced sound experience by reducing reverberation, enhancing bass, and improving sound diffusion.
A Long-Term Commitment
The project represents a commitment to maintaining the Tenerife Auditorium as a leading cultural venue. Following the initial upgrades in 2019 (phase 1), the completion of phases 2 and 3 focused on the Symphony and Chamber Halls, ensuring the venue remains state-of-the-art for years to come.
Upcoming Performances
The improvements will debut during the Symphony Hall’s season opener on September 6, 2024, with a theatrical performance, followed by a concert by the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra the following week.
For ISS Acoustic & Interiors, this project underscores our expertise in delivering cutting-edge acoustic solutions for world-renowned venues.
